Maria Sibille
As one of the Little Sisters, I had the joy to live from 2005 to 2015 in Kabul. My Sisters had been there already some 50 years, so I could join a lively and friendly community. I worked at the Red Crescent, with mentally challenged women. I tried to help them and to find time to play and laugh inspite of all the tough stuff. Until today I remember all of them with love and pain. I remember the silly moments, the dark moments, making a salad, going for a very small walk, all that might help them live the day today. Once, I shared with Fr Stan about the situation at the Red Crescent and talked about a school next door. I mentioned that this school was for the children of the Marastoon, this place for poor and abandoned people, which belonged to the Red Crescent. Fr Stan went and made contact with Mr Kushan, the director of the Marastoon. He agreed and the Jesuits could start teaching there. During all these years, we Little Sisters were very glad about the Jesuits being there. It was a good and deep friendship, thanks to you all. And we do wish you all the best and God’s good blessing for all your work you do in Afghanistan.
