Mission in the spirit of the magis, like countless others, has been a constant in my life.
In 2011, I was invited by an Afghani friend to travel with him to Afghanistan to attend some weddings and to meet his family and friends. I knew it would be good to use my skills to Teach English as a Second Language whilst there, and that’s when I was given the name of Fr Stan Fernandes SJ. We began to communicate with each other.
I was asked if I could use my skills and so created three English level workbooks to bring with me to hand over to the Jesuit/JRS Afghan mission in Kabul.
Living and working with the Jesuit mission was a time of deepening a closer understanding of this wonderful Afghani culture though the eyes of the Jesuit-JRS-JWL partnership. When I returned home, I kept up my contact with Fr Stan and continued to use my educational skills if asked for.
A ‘shout out’ to all those I met and lived and worked with - as still you are in mind, heart and prayers! I stand in solidarity with your mission as we traverse this period of unchartered waters!
