Throughout my 13 years of ministry with JRS (2003-2016)—both in Washington, DC and in Rome—the work of JRS Afghanistan has always struck me as a quintessential example of the Society’s outreach to people on the margins.  JRS Afghanistan has worked in difficult and often dangerous settings, offering much-needed services to countless displaced people.  None of your work has been more important that the education you have offered to children—both girls and boys. You have transformed their lives in dramatic ways. I will never forget the long period of Fr Prem Kumar’s abduction when we tried on a daily basis to coordinate our efforts internationally to gain his release.

The tremendous effort that JRS Afghanistan staff members made to promote Prem’s freedom will always fill my heart with admiration and thanks.  Congratulations on your 15th Anniversary. Many blessings as you continue your great work for the people of Afghanistan.
